Tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia’s cousin brother Dipu Ruparelia is the new President of the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU), and is set to reign for a ‘Kisanja’ of four years.
Ruparelia, who was on Saturday elected President of FMU together with other members of the Executive Committee, emerged victorious after passing through a tight race to scoop the victory from three rivals with 36 votes, in the general elections held at Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo.
Following his election, Ruparelia, who rally ace Rajiv Ruparelia’s uncle, has since become the sixth FMU president since the formation of the Federation in 2000.
He beat outgoing president Dusman Okee who scored 14 votes, Geoffrey Nsamba 11 while former president Jack Wavamuno got 25 votes.
During the same election, the new FMU Management team for the next four years was also elected.
Among the new electorates is Shemmy Senkatuka who was elected Vice President, beating Ken Kitariko and Kees Kagolo.
Jeff Kabagambe was re-elected the deputy Vice President Motorsport, after scooping victory from Leon Ssenyange.
Leila Mayanja, the only female in the Management Committee, was elected General Secretary, after beating Reynolds Kibira to the position.
