Hoima: The Police is Hoima district on Friday arrested a man for brutally strangling his mother to death.
Gerald Amehobwe,30, a resident of Kasingo Ward, Busiisi division, Hoima Municipality, allegedly strangled his mother Sayuni Atugonza 65, to death on Thursday night.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson said that “The body of Atugonza was recovered in her room on Friday morning by neighbours.” He added that “The body had bruises on the neck, face and the back, an indication that she was strangled to death.”
He said Amehobwe accused his mother of allegedly refusing him to sell part of the family land, such that he could get capital to start up a business. Hakiza said the suspect is currently detained at Hoima central police station to help in carrying out investigations. He will be produced in court to answer charges of murder when investigations are completed.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s body was taken by police to Hoima Hospital mortuary for postmortem and later handed over to the relatives for burial.
