The territorial Police at Kira Division is currently investigating the death of a pilgrim identified as Arinitwe Jackline, 49 a peasant at Katokori Village, Kyanarwa Parish, Katanda sub-county in Rubirizi District.
The incident happened today 30/05/2022 at about 11:30 am in Namugongo Parish, Kira Municipality Wakiso District.
The deceased was among the 90 pilgrims who were trekking from west Ankole diocese for the martyrs’ day celebrations slated for Friday 3rd June.
Her body has been conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for Postmortem to help establish the exact cause of death.
Uganda will hold Martyrs’ Day celebrations at the Namugongo Martyrs’ Shrine, located northeast of Kampala, June 3, 2022.
Uganda’s Martyrs’ Day holiday commemorates the late 19th-century martyrdom of a group of 23 Anglican and 22 Catholic men who were ordered by then-King of Buganda Mwanga II to be put to death for having converted to Christianity. Attendance usually ranges from one to two million pilgrims from Uganda and neighboring countries, including Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
