Three Perish, Two Nursing Wounds As Ambulance Catches Fire In Bunyangabu District

Ministry of Health (MoH) has clarified on the sad incident where an ambulance belonging to Bwera General Hospital in Kasese burst into flames yesterday at Yerya in Kibito Sub County along Fort Portal-Kasese road in Bunayangabu district.

The Ministry says that its field emergency care teams were transferring a referred patient from Bwera General Hospital to Fortportal Regional Referral Hospital (RRH) when this tragic incident happened.

”Our Fort portal emergency response team has reported that five people were on board by the time of the fire that started in the patient’s cabin,” states a statement released by the Ministry, it adds, ”Three people were inpatients’ cabin (an emergency nurse, attendant and patient) and two in the front cabin (a driver and another patient attendant).”

Reports indicate that 3 people in the patient’s cabin died while the two in the front cabin escaped with severe burns and were evacuated to Fort portal RRH for stabilisation care.

TheSpy Uganda has learnt that the emergency medical services department at the MoH has sent a team to evacuate the causalities who survived with severe burns to Kiruddu National Referral Hospital where there is a specialised burns unit to handle severe burns.

”The exact cause of the fire is not known. Investigations will be conducted by experts to establish the cause. We shall update the public as further information becomes available,” adds the MoH.
