Security operatives have raided the home of Rwenzururu king Charles Wesley Mumbere in Kampala.
According to a press release issued on Thursday by the Rwenzururu kingdom spokesperson Clarence Bwambale, the plain clothed operatives raided Mumbere’s home located in Muyenga on Wednesday night.
The press release further states that the raid was as a result of rumours circulating that Mumbere had sneaked out his home like a commando and was suspected to have gone back to the Rwenzori areas of Kasese to re-ignite a looming guerilla war.
Social media was on Tuesday and Wednesday awash with reports that Mumbere had escaped from his home in Kampala and traveled to Kasese, this, the security operatives never took it lightly.,thus the raid.
“Mumbere is not new to wars,he is infact a retired ‘General’ if you know his history,” a source commented.
Mumbere is currently battling several charges which include murder, treason, terrorism, arson and malicious damage at Jinja High court. He was arrested in 2016 when security forces raided his palace in Kasese town, in which more than 80 people were killed.
However, this year, Mumbere applied for a review of his bail conditions to allow him to visit Kasese district.
A source in the Rwenzururu kingdom said that the operatives from the Internal Security Organization (ISO) confiscated the mobile phones of Mumbere, his wife Agnes Ithungu’s and all police officers attached to his security detail. The officers were also grilled for more than six hours.
The operatives who spent a night at the home also tried to block Mumbere’s two children from going to school on Thursday morning. However Mumbere protested harassment of the children.
