Senior UPDF, Defence Leaders Partner With British Defence Academy On Training Of Building Integrity

Fourteen (14) Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces senior leaders and officers on Thursday concluded a four-day training on building a culture of integrity and preventing opportunities for corruption under the Building Integrity for Senior Leaders.

The Building Integrity for Senior Leaders Program was conducted by the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom from 3-6 October at Golf Course Hotel.

Speaking at the closure of the training, Matthew Little, the Deputy Development Director, British High Commission in Kampala said that since their first interaction with the UPDF leaders about the programme in 2018 in the UK, the program has seen over Seventy (70) senior UPDF and Defence leaders undertake the course both within Uganda and in the UK.

He congratulated the leaders for their participation and successful completion of the program.

The UPDF 3 Infantry Division Deputy Commander, Brig Gen Felix Busizoori who spoke on behalf of the participants thanked the British team for their efforts towards educating and enlightening them on issues that will help them in the course of their work.

He thanked his fellow participants for their commitment towards the training.

Brig Gen Busizoori underscored that such programs enhance the already cordial cooperation between Uganda and the United Kingdom and between Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces and the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom.

Angus Barry, the Program Director, of Building Integrity said that the topics covered ranged from; risks of corruption in the security environment, how to develop integrity codes of conduct, the Importance of free and independent media, good practices in financial management, Procurement and Leadership.

He said that the UK team greatly valued the participation of the delegates who provides perspective on how to prevent corruption and promote integrity in the Uganda Defence Sector.
