SHEEMA, Uganda: There was a stampede in Sheema Municipality when the Municipality authorities led by the Town Clerk Justine Barekye swung into action to address the issue of toilets in squalid state.
The filthy latrines in the municipality had turned the aeration in the Kabwohe vicinity into a nightmare. Barekye, and a team of other Sheema municipal council officials decided to clean Kabwohe town by themselves. The cleanup however ended with the destruction of 11 toilets that were considered for human usage. Some residents were given an ultimatum of one week to vacate their residential premises that were considered in a sorry state. Pleas by some sections of the landlords to be granted some time to repair their premises fell in deaf ears.Not spared was the Councilor Kyagaaju Ward Betty Mukago, who was found among the locals with toilets in filthy conditions. Her toilet was not spared either. Justine Barekye Sheema municipality town clerk requested Kabwohe traders and residents to always clean where they sleep every morning for the betterment of Sheema municipality.
George Tumwebaze LC 3 Chairman Kabwohe thanked the town clerk saying that if she continues with that spirit, Kabwohe will have good health conditions ever. The events nearly turned out rowdy when cross section of residents resorted to fist fights. In another incident, Sheema police faced it rough after Town clerk poured the liquor (Uganda waragi) that they were nabbed consuming during day time. The woes of the revelers started after they were ordered to join in the general cleanup exercise but refused.
