Untold grief engulfed residents of Timuna village, Kasangombe sub-county in Nakaseke district, on Monday morning, after they landed on a body of one of their own, who was electrocuted to death by live current cables he fell on as he walked home.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased only identified as Kiwanuka, a trader and brother of the area LC chairman Zephania Musoke, died on Sunday night as he returned home with friends.
It is said that while on his way home, Kiwnuka slipped as he tried to skip a puddle in the muddy road and fell on live current cables from a pole that had fallen a few days back, although it hadn’t been removed by Umeme yet.
Joshua Kasoma Zaake, one of the locals at the scene said that “The pole fell last week but since then Umeme has never sent people to remove it.”
He added that “Apart from the deceased, one of the residents lost a pig and another one lost a dog after they were electrocuted too.”
However, by the time of filing this story, neither Umeme nor the police in Nakaseke had issued a statement about the tragedy, although Kiwanuka’s corpse was later removed by the locals and taken for burial.
