Kampala: According to the latest update from the Ministry of Health, Uganda has lost 49 citizens to Covid-19 in a single day-TheSpy Uganda reports.
The Ministry has announced that the above came at the same time when Uganda has registered 1,110 new positive cases of Covid-19 which brings the cumulative confirmed cases to 64,251.
“Results of COVID-19 tests done on 13 June 2021 confirm 1,422 new cases. The cumulative confirmed cases are 64,251. 49 new deaths,” Health Ministry said.
The figure is the highest fatality rate that the country has ever confirmed in 24 hours since the outbreak of the virus earlier 2020.
The death rate has since been attributed to lack of enough and Covid-19 vaccines as the country grapples with another wave of the pandemic.
Both private and public medical facilities in the capital, Kampala and in towns across the country – including regional hubs in Entebbe, Jinja, Soroti, Gulu and Masaka – have reported shortages of AstraZeneca vaccines and oxygen. Hospitals report they are no longer able to admit patients to intensive care.
Several vaccination centres and hospitals across the country have suspended programmes, throwing into doubt efforts to vaccinate 21.9 million high-risk people.
