Kampala: Detectives from the Uganda Police Force are hunting for musician Pius Mayanja popularly known as Pallaso, who escaped with handcuffs after being arrested in the wee hours of Thursday morning for breaching the COVID-19 curfew hours and Ministry of Health Guidelines.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened on Wednesday night in Makindye, when security had gone to arrest the musician.
The police say they received a disturbance call from residents of Luwafu zone at around 12:46 Am, from a complainant who said that a group of unruly people had gathered at Pallaso’s home.
“Our team responded to the scene and found the allegations to be true. We found a group of over 30 people gathered at the singer’s home playing loud music and drinking, as well as not observing the presidential guidelines on the spread of Coronavirus,” Owoyesigyire said.
On arrival, police officers first told the singer to reign in on his group to reduce the volume of their loud music and desist from such gatherings, but instead the group became violent, prompting the police to arrest them.
“The team commander reached out to Pallaso and the team to reduce the volume of their music and reminded them of the guidelines that prohibit gatherings similar to theirs,” Owoyesigyire added, revealing that the drunken gang instead became adamant and violent, which prompted the police to disperse them and during the melee, Pallaso escaped with police handcuffs.
Owoyesigyire revealed to this website that the police are hunting for the singer on charges on escaping from lawful custody, obstruction of justice, inciting violence and doing a negligent act likely to spread an infection of a deadly disease (COVID-19).
