Soroti Highway Accident Claims 5

Soroti: Five people have been confirmed to have perished in a terrible accident that occurred along the Soroti-Lira highway on Wednesday morning.

Eyewitnesses reveal that the tragedy which happened around 1:450pm at Ongunai village in Katine sub-county, occurred when a fuel tanker registration number ZC 5773/KBH 126X Actros collided head-on with a Fuso truck registration number UAY 033 G that was carrying cement, killing the five on spot.

The East Kyoga police spokesperson Michael Odongo identified some of the the deceased as Moses Golola, Ismael and Musa Nyenda, all residents of Mbale district. The two other bodies are for Somali nationals believed to have been in the fuel tanker. The Fuso truck loaded with cement, tomatoes and onions was heading to Arua from Mbale while the fuel tanker from South Sudan was enroute to Eldoret in Kenya.

The deceased’s bodies were later taken to n Nakatunya mortuary in Soroti municipal council and the injured rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital as investigations into what could have caused the accident continue. However, preliminary police investigations attributed the nasty accident to over-speeding. More details about this tragedy will come your way in our next updates.
