Sorrowful Moment For Makerereans As University Loses Another Lecturer To COVID-19

Kampala: As we report this, Uganda’s top universityMakerere’s students are battling a sorrowful moment as after losing another irreplaceable lecture who succumbed to COVID-19 on 5th July 2021.

Mr Godfrey Mwesige, a lecturer from the Department of Construction Management in Colleges of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) died at TMR hospital, Kampala, becoming the second lecturer to die at the university in just a few days following the death of Prof Noble Ephraim Banadda who died on July 1 over the same disease.

Youthful Godfrey Mwesige Who Succumbed To COVID-19

Godfrey Mwesige died with; PhDBSc(Civil Eng, Mak); MSc(Civil Eng, Illinois); Dip (Road Traffic Safety, Lund); PhD (Transport Science, KTH) Member UIPE and Registered Engineer. He was also the Chief Executive Officer at UB Consulting Engineers Ltd.

According to University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, Mwesige was one of the top creams at the academic institution and in the region. He had just applied to become a Senior Lecturer.

“We have lost yet another bright young member of staff to Covid-19. This is another huge blow to Makerere University. Mr Mwesige was one of the top highway engineers in Africa. We are devastated,” Prof Nawangwe confirmed.

Meanwhile, Uganda Engineers Registration Board (ERB) has also mourned the loss of the young wizard in a statement reading;

“We stand with the family of: ENG. DR. GODFREY MWESIGE Co-opted Board Member (2020-2022). Lecturer, Makerere University, CEDAT. ERB no. 1169.

On the sands of time, you have left your footprints with glory, everyone will know your name and shall recall your story. May his Soul Rest In Paradise.”
