In a vibrant ceremony held at Devine University, Kahunga Bunyonyi, in Fort Portal City, Right Honourable Speaker Aheebwa Herbert celebrated his recent attainment of a Master’s degree in Human Rights from Makerere University.

The event, attended by political leaders, religious figures, students, and members of the local community, marked both a personal milestone and a political springboard for Aheebwa’s ambitions.
The ceremony was graced by Hon. Margaret Muhanga, who represented Vice President Jessica Alupo as the guest of honor. Muhanga commended Aheebwa’s unwavering dedication to public service and his commitment to the people of Fort Portal.

In his speech, Aheebwa expressed gratitude to his supporters and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Fort Portal.

“As I celebrate this academic achievement, I also take this moment to declare my readiness to serve Fort Portal City at an even higher level. I will be seeking the NRM flag for the mayoral position in the upcoming elections,” Aheebwa announced, amidst cheers from his supporters.
His announcement was met with enthusiastic applause, signaling strong community support for his candidacy.
Aheebwa hails from a distinguished lineage; he is the son of Steven Kaliba, who served as the Prime Minister (Omuhikirwa) of Tooro Kingdom.
Kaliba, a former Member of Parliament for Fort Portal Municipality, was appointed as Tooro’s premier by King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru in 2013. During his tenure, Kaliba was recognized for his efforts to promote social and economic development within the kingdom and for striving to resolve longstanding internal conflicts.
Aheebwa Herbert’s announcement to vie for the mayoral position reflects a continuation of his family’s legacy of public service and dedication to the advancement of Fort Portal City.
As the city approaches the forthcoming elections, Aheebwa’s educational accomplishments and political aspirations are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping its future trajectory.
