The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kagada has Thursday officiated over this year’s Cavendish University’s 9th Graduation ceremony.
The ceremony was the first ever virtual and ‘Scientific’ graduation ceremony in East Africa, being under the COVID-19 lockdow and social distancing guidelines by min.of Health where larger groups of social gatherings are prohibited.
Prof Esther Koi Tirima, from Tanzania, who is the University’s former Vice Chancellor, was also in attendance, together with the reigning VC Prof. John Mugisha.
In physical attendance today was former former Tanzania’s President Benjamin Mkapa, the University’s current Chancellor and former URA commissioner general Doris Akol.
In observance of the Min.of Health guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in controlling the spread of Coronavirus, a few graduands who attended the occasion were allowed to sit only one per table.
“This is a Virtual Graduation,you stay home ,connect to ZOOM, and when you hear and see your name being read. You have graduated,” Cavendish University management told graduating students.
Cavendish University is so far the first institution of higher learning in Uganda and East Africa to conduct a graduation ceremony during the COVID-19 lockdown.
