Stanbic Bank Uganda Cup: Proline Edge Mbale Heroes As Police Punish Bright Stars

Proline FC edged Mbale Heroes 2-1 in the Stanbic bank Uganda Cup round of 16 first leg on Sunday at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo.

Noordin Bunjo opened the score for the hosts from the spot in the 40th minute following a foul on Brian Mato in the area.

Two minutes later, Savio Kabugo doubled the lead for the hosts from a well-curled free-kick.

Proline made three substitutes as Gerald Kirya, Alpha Ssali Thiery and Norman Kugonza replaced Ivan Ocholit, Brian Umony and goal scorer Bunjo respectively.

On there hand, Police FC picked up a massive 4-1 victory past Bright Stars with Ben Ocen who opened the score for the corps in as early as the second minute however, thirteen minutes later, Joseph Janjali levelled the matters.

Before long, Yusuf Ssozi restored the lead for Police in the 23rd minute as the hosts continued piling pressure on Bright Stars.

In the 35th minute, Ocen completed his brace to stretch the lead for the corps to 3-1 with a beauty from a distance from the stunning left foot to into the top corner.

Mubaraka Nsubuga came in for Muwadda Mawejje in the 51st minute before the corps made a double substitution in the 72nd minute introducing Starlet Derrick Kakooza and Harman Wasswa for Brian Muluuli and Frank Tumwesigye respectively.

With just three minutes on the pitch, Kakooza scored the fourth for the corps to seal a 4-1 victory.

This was a consolation to the corps having fallen to Wakiso Giants 3-1 in the league game.

Elsewhere, Kampala Capital City Authority football club (KCCA), secured an important 2-0 win against Maroons at Prisons Grounds, Luzira.

Herbert Achai and Hassan Jurua scored for the Kasasiro boys to hand KCCA an advantage as they go for the second leg at MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo.

Achai netted with a beautiful header in the 14th minute while Jurua slotted home from the penalty kick.

Like police, this victory was a redemption for the Kasasiro boys having lost to Bright Stars 2-0 at home in the league in their last match.
