State House Anti Corruption Unit Arrests Bukedea Councillor For Assaulting Candidate Omagor

On Friday, the State House Anti Corruption Unit in liaison with the Police have arraigned Malinga Dan, a Bukedea Town Councillor, before the Magistrate Court of Bukedea over chaos in the recently concluded Bukedea LCV by-election.

The Unit says the suspect allegedly mobilized & led the goons who assaulted & robbed one of the aspirants Mr. Omagor Steven.

”The assault occurred on June 6, 2023, when the aforementioned aspirant approached the E.C gate at Bukedea to present himself for nomination as a candidate for the by-election. The assault was intended to prevent his nomination for the position,” says the Unit.

Meanwhile, this action follows a directive by His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to the Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to investigate the criminal activities committed during the by-election.

Malinga has now been remanded until 26/07/2023.

Powerful Unit

The State House Anti Corruption Unit in one year, 2022, managed to recover Ugx35.484bn from corruption masters of this country, the annual report revealed.

The Unit also managed to arrest and arraign in court over 448 suspects. Among these, courts convicted 70 culprits including government accounting Officers, Executive Officers, managing directors, Secretaries of Commission, CAOs, and Town Clerks.

SH-ACU was established under Article 99(4) of the constitution of Uganda, which gives the President executive powers to either directly or indirectly perform his duties or through officers subordinate to him.

Launched on 10th December 2018, SH-ACU coordinates with all constitutionally mandated agencies to ensure a corruption-free country.

The Unit also acts as a link between H.E. the President, citizens, and Anti- Corruption agencies in relation to Anti-Corruption issues.
