A well-known land dealer in Mukono, Kityo Seruma Green Way Edward, along with Kazibwe Yusufu, has been arraigned before the Grade 1 Magistrates Court in Nakifuma on serious criminal charges, including forcible entry and conspiracy to commit an offence. The arraignment was carried out yesterday afternoon by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Uganda Police Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
According to prosecutors, between 2020 and 2023, the accused—along with several individuals still at large—illegally and violently took possession of a piece of land (commonly referred to as a kibanja) in Nakasajja Village, Kyampisi Sub-County, Mukono District. The land belongs to Kamundu Martin, and the court heard that the accused not only destroyed trees, crops, and other property on the land, but also attempted to forcibly claim ownership of it.
Further investigations revealed that the accused allegedly conspired with one of the land’s administrators, subdivided it into smaller plots, and unlawfully sold them to various unsuspecting buyers.
Both accused individuals have been remanded to custody until April 28, 2025, as investigations and legal proceedings continue. Authorities have confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the other individuals connected to the case who remain at large.
This development highlights the ongoing crackdown on land fraud and illegal land transactions in Uganda, a persistent issue that has plagued various districts and led to displacement, property destruction, and legal disputes across the country. The case also serves as a reminder of the government’s commitment to protecting lawful land ownership and bringing perpetrators of land-related crimes to justice.
