Kampala: State House Anti Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) have arrested Shamim Chebet, the Parish Chief of Kongowo Parish in Kapsinda Sub County, Kapchorwa District.

Chebet was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kapchorwa this morning on charges of Obtaining Money by False Pretence and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.

According to the ever alert Unit, the charges against Chebet stem from allegations that she, along with the Local Council II (LC II) Chairperson of Kongowo and the SACCO Chairperson who are both still at large conspired to illegally demand and collect millions of shillings from hundreds of beneficiaries of the Kongowo Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO.

This alleged scheme took place between August 2023 and January 2024, with the accused demanding payment as a condition for beneficiaries to access PDM funds.

Chebet has been remanded until August 22, 2024, as investigations continue and efforts to apprehend her accomplices are underway.
