Lt.Col. Edith Nakalema, who heads the State House Anti-corruption Unit could find herself in hot soup soon after she intentionally flouted President Yoweri Museveni and the Ministry of Health’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidelines on social distance as she celebrated her 42nd birthday Saturday.
This comes after the workaholic Nakalema shared on social media pictures of her fraternizing with several  members of the Anti-Corruption Unit of State House, as they showered birthday greetings on her.
“Join us in wishing our Head, Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema Asizua a joyful and splendid birthday. Each one of us appreciates your endless support, mentorship and above all, the great leadership. Afande, we are blessed to have you as our Head. May the good Lord reward the works of your hands,” read a post on Anti corrupt unit Facebook page.
However, despite doing a good job at combating corruption in Uganda, including  ridding the Bank of Uganda of all corrupt officials, Nakalema is likely to find herself on the wrong side of the law, after flouting her boss (Musevenis’s) guidelines on maintaining social distance and wearing face masks as a way of preventing the spread of COVID-19.
This is because in the pictures that have since gone viral on social media, Nakalema is seen mingling with several people without either wearing a mask or maintaining social distance. Even the people she is fraternizing with are not wearing face masks, yet this not only exposes them but also Nakalema to the risk of contracting COVID-19.
Following  Nakalema’s act that is likely to endanger the lives other people, several concerned Ugandans have since lambasted her for flouting the President’s COVID-19 regulations with many of them calling her to order.
It should be noted that the Minister for Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng sparked off an uproar a few days back after she appeared amongst her electorates in Lira District without wearing a face mask, yet she had been at the forefront of urging all Ugandans to wear masks as a way of preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, on seeing the story on Spy Uganda, CID’s mouth piece ASP Charles Twine came out immediately and clarified that the alleged picture was taken last year in October during the Anti corruption week long walk after President’s address.
Here at Spy Uganda we wish Afande Nakalema a very happy birthday, let her grow older than the Mengo Kingdom tortoises.
