Kampala: As the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) campaigns heat up in various regions of Uganda, the aspiring Vice Chairperson Eastern region Hon. Sanjay Tanna, has noted that his competitor flight Capt. Mike Goerge Mukula, is allegedly uttering racist and sectarian statements against him (Tana), which is not only against the Party’s constitution, but even the national constitution makes it a highly risky business to indulge in.
In a letter dated August, 3, 2020, addressed to the NRM Electoral Commission, Tanna noted that Mukula, via his political meetings and radio talk-shows aired on Rock Mambo Radio in Tororo, among others, was heard spreading sectarianism among party members trying to portray him (Tanna) as a foreigner. Tana is a Ugandan of Indian origin.
“As you are aware; Chapter two 6(i) of the NRM Constitution provides that; The NRM is a National, broad based, inclusive, democratic, non-sectarian, multi-ideological, multi interest and progressive mass organization,” Tanna’s letter reads in part.
“This however contradicts with the NRM constitution which provides that; a person shall not be discriminated against on the ground of sex, race, colour, ethnic origin, tribe, birth, creed, religion, social of economic standing, political opinion or disability,” he adds.

Dear Sir;
RE: SECTARIAN UTTERANCES BY CANDIDATE HON. CAPT. MIKE MUKULA IN THE ON-GOING C.E.C CAMPAIGNS.
Greetings to you in the name and spirit of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The Election Task Force of Candidate Hon. Sanjay Tanna has noted with concern the deliberate utterances of sectarian messages to the NRM Members by Candidate Mike Mukula during his various ongoing campaign meetings for the National Vice Chairperson Eastern Bid and evidence by way of video clips and radio talk shows the latest being Rock Mambo Radio in Tororo yesterday 3rd August 2020 trying to portray Hon. Sanjay Tanna as a foreigner and piling all forms of prejudicial innuendos against his person.
As you are aware; Chapter two 6(i) of the NRM Constitution provides that; The NRM is a National, broad based, inclusive, democratic, non-sectarian, multi-ideological, multi interest and progressive mass organization.
In addition, section 21(2) of the National Constitution provides that; a person shall not be discriminated against on the ground of sex, race, colour, ethnic origin, tribe, birth, creed, religion, social of economic standing, political opinion or disability. This is further entrenched in the anti-Sectarianism Laws of Uganda.
