Kampala: The Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola has ordered the Regional Police Commander, North West Nile, to take immediate action against clueless Adjumani police officers who battered NTV/Daily Monitor correspondent in the nothern region on Thursday this week.

”We are deeply concerned about an incident where an NTV reporter, Scovin Iceta, was allegedly assaulted by police officers from Adjumani while returning from his journalist duty, in Mungula Refugee Settlement Camp,” says Police.
After arresting and keeping him in police coolers for a full night, Iceta was in the morning denied making a statement at the same police station. Now, Ochola has also instructed RPC to immediately contact the journalist and institute inquiries.
”In line with our established practices and procedures, the IGP has instructed the Regional Police Commander, North West Nile, to immediately contact the journalist and institute inquiries. He must in addition take sanctions against all officers responsible for the assault,” adds police.
According to Ochola, Police leadership takes matters of mistreatment of journalists seriously and will continue to promote its partnership with the media.
”Our protective cover to all journalists as they play their essential role in reporting events will be further strengthened,” pledged Ochola.
Nation Media Group journalist, Iceta Scovin was battered by the Adjumani district police bosses while pursuing his duties of covering the enforcement of curfew guidelines.
