Sheema: Jacklet Rwabukurukuru Atuhaire, the Sheema Woman Member of Parliament, urged parents in Rugarama Sub-county Sheema district, to avoid neglecting boys when it comes to education and concentrating on girls.
Hon. Atuhaire revealed this while delivering Solar panels and saucepans to Schools and village groups at Nyakashonga Primary School, in Rugarama Sub-county on Tuesday.
She said that “What worries me is one; according to research, most parents and leaders have greatly concentrated on caring for girls. They take girls like gold in everything, leaving boys behind. This has made most of our boys join dubious activities like stealing, smoking weed, fornication and other vices. Let me ask you my fathers and mothers; if you take these boys for granted and you concentrate on proper upbringing of girls, whom do you think will marry them? I kindly request that from now on start delivering equal services and caring for all your children, irrespective of gender, because these children you see are great gifts from God and it’s hard to differentiate who will save you in future or who won’t.”
Hon. Atuhaire added that “Most parents treat boys like immortals hence failing to give them food. Most parents especially mothers, tend to pack nice food for their daughters but leave the boys to starve. Because God created men powerful, it doesn’t mean you should make them suffer to that extent. No wonder that’s why murder, stealing and sexual abuse cases are rampantly increasing. It’s because most of our boys are neglected at their early age. I therefore request you to start honoring our future husbands and sons-in-laws.”
Former Sheema South MP Prof Elijah Dickens Mushemeza, urged people to stop asking everything from the government. “I urge you my people to work for yourselves and stop asking each and everything from the government. Let the government add something on what you have already. God helps those who help themselves. Start helping yourself. That’s when government will help you. Go and start digging and ask government to give you seeds but don’t wait for it to do everything for you,” Prof. Mushemeza said.
