The high-profile murder trial of prominent Ugandan businessman Henry Katanga took a dramatic twist this week after explosive digital forensic evidence was presented in court, raising fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Testifying before Justice Rosette Comfort Kania at the High Court in Kampala, police digital forensic examiner AIP Enoch Kanene revealed a flurry of suspicious phone activity and disturbing video footage from November 2, 2023—the day Katanga died.
Kanene told the court that Denise Nayebare, a relative present at Katanga’s home, made or received 101 phone calls that day.

“My Lord, the handset was first used at 6:19 a.m., starting with a missed call from a contact saved as Nelson Mbuya,” Kanene stated.
The sheer volume of calls has raised serious suspicions about Nayebare’s actions on the day of Katanga’s death.

Chilling Video Evidence Revealed
Even more unsettling, the court heard that a mobile phone belonging to George Amanyire, the family’s shamba boy, contained three short video clips recorded at 9:41 a.m. The videos depicted bloodstains on the corridor floor and inside Katanga’s bedroom. Kanene confirmed that the clips lasted between four and ten seconds, supported by still images, including a selfie of Amanyire wearing a blood-stained shirt.
Further, Molly Katanga, the widow of the deceased, had minimal phone activity on the same day. Forensic reports showed only one missed call at 11:31 a.m., from a contact listed as “Babiba/Grace.” Analysts confirmed the phone belonged to her, registered under Katanga Molly.
Case Background
Katanga, a well-known businessman and close associate of several top figures in Uganda’s security and political circles, died under suspicious circumstances at his home in Mbuya, Kampala, on November 2, 2023.
Initial reports suggested Katanga was shot dead in his bedroom. His wife, Molly Katanga, was reported to have been in the same room and is highly suspected to be behind this killing. In the weeks following Katanga’s death, allegations of a cover-up and tampering with evidence emerged.
Molly Katanga was later charged with murder, while other suspects including their daughters face charges related to accessory to murder, destruction of evidence, and obstruction of justice. Watch the space… Coz we will bring you what happened on Wednesday session…
