Three young children were injured in a truck accident on Wednesday afternoon when a heavy vehicle lost control and crashed into the fence of Shalom Junior School in Ndongo Village, Bwera Division, Kasese District.

Accident Details

The incident occurred around 1:00 PM. A Sino Truck, registration number UBP 057N, was carrying marram (gravel) when it skidded on a slippery road due to heavy rain. The truck failed to navigate a sharp corner, overturned, and smashed into the school fence.

The injured children—Mumbere Brighton (6), Adrati Sixtusi (3), and Mumbere Edrick (3)—are all from Nyakiyumbu One Village. They were playing nearby when the accident happened. The truck driver fled the scene and has not yet been identified.

Police & Emergency Response

Local police, led by SP Tai Ramathani, the District Police Commander for Bwera Division, responded to the scene. The truck was towed to Bwera Police Division for further inspection, and the injured children were taken to Bwera Hospital for treatment. Authorities say investigations are ongoing and efforts to find the driver are underway.

Safety Concerns Raised

This incident underscores the dangers of driving heavy trucks on wet, slippery roads, particularly in regions like Kasese District that experience frequent rainfall. It also raises concerns about traffic safety around schools and residential areas.

Police are urging truck drivers to drive cautiously, especially near schools and in areas with sharp bends, to help prevent future accidents.
