Tough Times: Tears As Kinyara Sugar Axes Thousands Of Workers In Massive Downsizing

Several Ugandans are shedding buckets of tears after being axed from their jobs at Kinyara Sugar Works Limited factory, just a few days to Christmas.

Spy Uganda has learnt that the massive retrenchment was communicated in a Memo dated November 14, 2019, by Moses Kabira, the Human Resource Manager, which notified all that has since been axed.

The Memo states thus; “This is to inform all employees that after a review of the Company’s manpower in relationship to its core needs and all associated ongoing challenges, Management has taken a painful but unavoidable decision to reduce the size of its workforce in order to maintain the Company in business. All affected employees have been notified in writing and will be compensated appropriately in compliance with the Memorandum of Agreement between the Union and Management and the Employment Act.

Management would like to reassure the rest of the employees that there is no reason to worry about their job security and calls upon them to remain calm and continue doing their work normally.”

However, insiders reveal that all is not well financially with Kinyara Sugar factory, reason why they are laying off workers.
