Trigger-Happy LDU Shoots One Dead, Injures Others While Enforcing Museveni Curfew

Just a few days after a Local Defence Unit (LDU) operative shot dead a boda-boda cyclist and pregnant woman in Masaka town, another LDU has reportedly shot dead a man and left many others injured in Kween District, while purportedly enforcing president Yoweri Museveni’s COVID-19 curfew.

Currently,  the Police in Kween District are investigating an alleged murder by shooting of a one Alfred Mwanga, 46, a resident of Kapkwata village, Kapkwata sub-county by LDUs who were on foot patrol on Sunday night.

According to the Sipi region police spokesperson ASP Fredmark Chesung, another person, identified as David Chemusto, 30, a resident of Kamujan village, Cherankan parish, who was also injured in the incident is currently admitted at Kapchorwa hospital.

It is alleged that while implementing the Presidential guidelines on prevention of COVID-19, the LDUs found a group of 12 men playing cards who allegdly turned rowdy as they tried to arrest them for breaching the Social Distance guideline.

The police revealed that the deceased reportedly attempted to hack one of the LDU officers before he was shot at.

ASP Chesung told the media that the suspect, a one Mutai Timothy, an LDU officer, has since been arrested and handed over to UPDF for trial before the court-martial and will be arraigned in court when investigations into the gruesome murder are completed.

However, by press time the police Spokesperson CP Fred Enanga had not yet issued a statement about this horrible incident.
