Tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia Assures Ugandans On Timely Completion Of Speke Resort Convention Centre For NAM,G-77 Summits

Kampala: City tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia has assured Ugandans that Speke Resort Convention Centre will be ready as anticipated for the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and Group of 77 (G-77) summits.

The state-of-the-art facility is set to host the 19th NAM Summit scheduled from January 15th to 20th, 2024 and the Third South Summit (G77 Summit) from January 21st to 23rd.

With the diplomatic summits just around the corner, Dr. Sudhir informed our reporter that his team of engineers is in the final stages of completing remaining tasks such as furniture installations, air conditioning adjustments, and setup of audio-visual equipment at the Convention Centre, a project with a significant investment and a boost to Uganda’s hospitality industry.

A collaboration between the Ruparelia Group and the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC), the investment arm of the government of Uganda, Speke Resort Convention Centre boasts of various amenities including; a state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity ranging from 3800 to 4400, 12 high-end conference/breakaway meeting rooms, and a restaurant capable of accommodating between 700 and 900 guests.

The facility is being integrated into the existing 105-acre lakeside resort complex that already has two luxury lake-side resorts Speke Resort Munyonyo and Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, also owned by the Ruparelia Group.

The three iconic properties combined, bring to Uganda’s hospitality sector about 40 indoor meetings and banqueting facilities of various sizes, with a capacity to host 19,000 people in addition to several other outdoor venues.

Away from meeting venues, the complex boasts of 476 accommodation rooms in various configurations, including 54 presidential suites.

The new convention centre is also supported by 3 modern kitchens that can prepare up to 10,000 meals a day.

Additional space for parking has been acquired to push the facility’s parking space to 1500 cars.

Its worth remembering that during the two summits, Uganda will assume the chairmanship of NAM for three years and G77 and China for one year, providing a significant boost to the economy. Uganda’s chairmanship of these summits is expected to serve as a platform to showcase the country’s unique tourism and investment opportunities to a broader international audience.

The Non-Aligned Movement, founded in 1955 during the Asian-Africa meeting in Bandung, Indonesia, emerged as a force advocating for decolonization and unites countries that are not aligned with either the Eastern or Western power blocs.
