Kampala: The latest about Uganda Airline’s progress is that it’s set to launch its flights to China in April 2022.
Receiving a donation of COVID-19 equipment from China Ambassador in Uganda, State Minister for Transport, Fred Byamukama said;
“The national airline is already contributing to the competitiveness of air transport in the region and beyond. Since the commencement of flights to Dubai, more businessmen are plying that route, and there are future plans to commence direct flights to China, which is one of the very popular destinations for Ugandans. This is expected to be accomplished in April 2022, which is a great opportunity for business and people to people interaction.”
China and Uganda in 2019 agreed to lift their relations to a comprehensive cooperative partnership. The two countries work jointly to implement the Belt and Road Initiative as well as the outcome of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit held in September 2018.
The resurrection of Uganda Airlines is an added advantage for Uganda to efficiently utilize its relationship with China.
Guangzhou will be Uganda Airlines’ second intercontinental flight on the addition of the previously launched Dubai flights. Previously the airline has only operated within Africa, but from October 04th, 2021, the airline connected Entebbe International Airport in Uganda with Dubai. For Ugandans, this put the national carrier in direct competition with FlyDubai, Emirates, and Ethiopian Airways.
