Uganda Confirms 114 COVID-19 Cases As MoH Hunts Down 13 New Infected Truck Drivers

The Ministry of Health on Saturday confirmed 13 new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of infections to 144, after samples were tested on Friday and 13 Truck Drivers tested positive.

However, officials from the Ministry revealed in a press release that the 13 new cases are truck drivers, whoa re being tracked down currently, such that they can either be put into isolation or repatriated to their respective countries.

Results of samples tested on May 8 , 2020,  confirmed 13 new COVID-19 cases from 2,421 (two thousand four hundred twenty one) samples of truck drivers who included 7 Kenyans, 4 Ugandans and 2 Tanzanians.

However, officials from the Ministry assured the general public that they have started tracking these suspects and the public will be informed accordingly. “Tracking has commenced and the public will be informed accordingly” officials revealed in a press release read.

But they added that all the 740 (seven hundred forty) community samples tested negative for COVID-19.

1. A 23 year old Kenyan male who arrived from Kenya

2. A 34 year old Ugandan male who arrived from Kenya
via Malaba border point.

3. A 46 year old Tanzanian male who arrived from Kenya
via Malaba border point.

10.A 30 year old Kenyan male who arived from Kenya via
Malaba border point.

11.A 27 year old Tanzanian male who arrived from
Tanzania via Mutukula border.

12. A 44 year old Kenyan male who arrived from Malaba

13. A 32 year old Ugandan male who arrived from Kenya
via Malaba boarder point.

So far Uganda has not registered any death and 54
total recoveries from different hospitals including Uganda Virus Institute,
Entebbe Grade B hospital, Mulago hospital and other regional hospitals COVID-19

The Government also previously established more 14
COVID-19 treatment centers on addition of Mulago and Entebbe as a way to curb
the virus and the new ones include Arua, Gulu, Lira, Soroti, Moroto, Mbale,
Jinja, Hoima, Mubende, Fortportal, Kabale, Mbarara, Masaka, and Naguru
