Uganda Confirms 14 New Cases Of COVID-19, Number Of Infections Rises To 755

The number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in Uganda is increasing by the day and as you read this, results from samples tested on June 18th, 2020, indicate that the Ministry of Health confirmed 14 new COVID-19 cases, adjusting the number of total confirmed cases upwards to 755.

According results from the samples carried out by the Ministry of Health, the new cases include; five (5) truck drivers: 2 from Busia,1 from Mirama Hills, 1 from Bunagana, 1 from Lira

Among them 9 are contacts and alerts: 5 contacts from Kampala,3 from Kyotera and 1 from Nebbi districts respectively.

The Ministry also revealed that 27 foreign truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 and were returned to their respective countries

This all comes at a time when the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in Uganda stands at  492 with no recorded COVID-19 related death.

The results were taken from 1,932 Samples collected at Points of Entry  and 1,109 Samples from alerts and contacts, out of a total number of 3,041 samples tested on Thursday. The Ministry noted that all contacts to previously confirmed  cases were under quarantine at the time of test.

Meanwhile, in line with H. E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni directives to all Ugandans to wear face masks as a way of preventing the spread of COVID-19  Joyce Moriku Kaducu, the State Minister for Health, on Thursday flagged off the grassroot distribution of facemasks in Amuru district and Adjumani district. Over 80,000 masks will be distributed to the communities in these districts.

This is in fulfillment of President Museveni’s promise that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government will distribute free face masks to all Ugandans as one of the campaigns to combat the spread of COVID-19.
