Kampala: Uganda the only nation that offers the rare opportunity to see Chimpanzees and Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat, at a cost lower than more popular African nations.

“For magnificence, for variety of form and color, for a profusion of brilliant life – bird, insect, reptile, beast – for vast scale – Uganda is truly “the Pearl of Africa. as written by Sir Winston Churchill in his 1908 book, “My African Journey”. No, ever truer words were never spoken, the Uganda Tourism Board visits Canadian Toronto.

Uganda’s Mountain Gorillas

The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) wrapped up a 3-city tour of Canada in Toronto late last week, after earlier stops in Montreal and Edmonton, as well as participation at the Vancouver International Travel Expo, a consumer travel show in Vancouver.

Along with Tourism Uganda was their North American Representatives, PHG Consulting, as well as four of the many tour operators available to create custom tours for travellers.

Hon Migereko the UTB board chairman assured Canadians that Uganda has excellent weather. “We are on the equator that ensures we have sunshine and uniform temperature throughout the year.

The major attractions are in the game parks and the wildlife in the country and our government has worked on preserving it, to make sure that human beings are not a threat to wildlife, by having special programs to protect wildlife. With the wildlife protected, we can have tourists come in to view the wildlife.” Board team added

Migereko said that since Uganda had not been sufficiently marketed in Canada and other Western countries, this trip has given them an opportunity to meet travel agencies in Canada, explain to them what Uganda has to offer, what attractions we have, what kind of infrastructure and facilities we have, because some people were worried about the hotels but we’ve been able to show that we have hotels that meet international standards.

He added that talking to travel agencies will help them to talk to their clients about what Uganda has to offer, what kind of destination Uganda is, and what are the arrangements that can be put in place in order for tourists from canada to have a good time, have a good experience, once he or she decides to go to Uganda.”

VanDenBosch an account Director at PHG consultancy said, there is a big push right now in the travel community that he wants to disperse tourism over.
“The region around Uganda has become very very popular – Kenya, Tanzania, everyone knows those areas, everyone goes there – and unfortunately, people just aren’t aware of Uganda yet, but it has everything those areas have and more, because Uganda also has the Gorillas and the Chimps.”
