The Cubs qualified for the AFCON U-17 championship that will be held in Morroco in July next year after a 1-0 victory over Djibouti in the first semi-final of the on-going CECAFA U-17 championship in Rwanda at the Stade Umuganda in Rubavu district on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides displayed a good performance but the Cubs were the better team with Oscar Mawa’s 89th-minute gasp winner. That was the sixth goal in three games for the lethal young Star.

Uganda Cubs came into this game with a fine performance after beating rivals Tanzania 5-0 and Ethiopia 3-0 respectively during the group A-stages and also the statistics were in favour of the Cubs having clobbered this same side 8-0 in the CECAFA U-17 Qualifiers that was in Tanzania in 2018.

Now Uganda will wait to see who they play within the finals of the tournament with Tanzania locking horns with Ethiopia in the second semi-final to see who takes this year’s Championship.
Uganda has enjoyed a wonderful year with the U-20 (Hippos) qualifying for the AFCON championship in Mauritania come next year and now the Cubs following suit which highlights the future of Ugandan football on an international level.
