Ugandan Players In Diaspora: Ochaya Leads Mazembe To 18th League Title As Mubiru Nets Hat-Trick In Rwanda

Kampala: It was an exciting weekend for a number of Ugandan players in the diaspora over the weekend amidst the Covid19 pandemic.

From the neighboring countries in Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo to the far West in Guinea, southern in South Africa, North in Egypt, Algeria and Morocco to the United States of America, Sweden and Iceland, the Ugandan ambassadors ably represented.

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC):

Left back Joseph Ochaya provided an assist as TP Mazembe side beat AS Maniema 1-0 on the road to win the DRC premier league title for the 18th time.

He finished the season with 2 goals and 8 assists.

Kenya:

Forwards Umar Kasumba and William Wadri both found the back of the net in the 16th and 29th minutes respectively as their Bandari FC side beat Kariobangi Sharks 4-1 at home.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan was in goal as his AFC Leopards beat Wazito 2-1 on the road.

Defender Martin Mpuga was not in the match day squad as his Western Stima side beat giants Gor Mahia away.

Rwanda:

Forward Yafessi Mubiru bagged a hat-trick to take his season tally to 10 goals as his Sunrise FC side coached by Moses Basena thrashed Musanze 5-1 at home in the relegation round.

Sunrise is also home for Pius Wangi, Sulaiman Majanjaro and Hood Kawesa.

Forward Hassan Kikoyo was in as his Gasozi United beat beat Muhanga 4-0 on the road in the relegation round.

South Africa:

Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Isima Watenga was in goal as his Chippa United side drew 1-1 at Richards Bay in the relegation playoffs.

USA:

Mustafa Kizza started before paving way for Bayiha in the 77th minute as his Club De Foot Montreal drew 1-1 at Nashville SC in the Major League Soccer (MSL).

Forward Edward Kizza was introduced in the 81st minute for Polster as his New England Revolution lost 2-1 at FC Dallas in the MLS.

Mike Azira started before going off in the 70th minute for Rivas as New Mexico side lost 3-1 at Colorado Springs in the USL Championship.

Morocco:

Uganda Cranes striker Patrick Kaddu came on in the 72nd minute for Niani as his Youssoufia Berrechid lost 2-0 at Rapid Oued Zem in the Botola Pro league.

Nelson Ssenkatuka was not in the match day squad as his Mogreb Tetouan side drew goalless at home to Magreb Fez.

Algeria:

Allan Okello did not feature as his Paradou AC drew 1-1 at home to Magra.

Sweden:

Uganda Cranes forward David Alexis Bbakka played full time as his Umea FC side drew 2-2 at Dalkurd in the Division 1 league.

Zambia:

Left back Shafiq Batambuze played full time as his Kabwe Worriors side beat Indeni 3-2 to qualify to the CAF Confederation cup after 33 years.

Custodian Yasin Mugabi was not in the match day squad as his Red Arrows drew goalless at Zanaco.

Egypt:

Derrick Nsibambi started before going off in the 61st minute for Nadi as his Smouha FC lost 3-0 at home to Ismaily SC.

Allan Kyambadde was not in the match day squad due to injury as his El Gouna side beat Ceramica CleoPatra 3-2 at home.

Uganda Cranes skipper Emmanuel Okwi was not in the match day squad as his Al Ittihad drew 1-1 Ghazl El Mahallah.

Tanzania:

Nicholas Wadada and goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya played full time as their Azam FC side lost 1-0 against Simba SC to storm the Tanzanian cup finals against Yanga Africans.

Midfielder Taddeo Lwanga also featured for Simba Sports Club.

Sudan:

Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Salim Jamal returned in goal as his Al Hilal Omdurman side beat Al Ahly Shendi at home.
