Police FC has edged Adjumani Town Council FC 1-0 in the first leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup played on Monday evening at the Kavumba Recreation Grounds.
The hosts got an early lead in the seventh minute after Hassan Kikoyo converted from the penalty awarded when forward Herman Wasswa was fouled within the eighteen-yard box.
The Cops had chances of leading the game by a bigger margin in the first half, but clear chances were squandered by Herman Wasswa and Denis Kalanzi.
After the fulltime whistle was blown, Police FC Head Coach Angelo Lonyesi expressed his delight for the win registered by his team and promised the same when his team travels to Adjumani for the return leg.
“Any win matters especially at this level of the Stanbic Uganda Cup. We are traveling to Adjumani with an upper hand and we can reproduce what we have done here” said Lonyesi.
The Adjumani TC FC Coach Geofrey Akena said that their target was a draw against Police, but a one goal margin isn’t bad, and they can easily overturn the results.
“Our target was a draw against Police which we haven’t achieved but the one goal margin is a fair result on our side. We can build from that and overturn the results at our home,” said Akena.
The second leg will be played on 26th May 2023 at the Paridi Stadium in Adjumani.
