Uganda’s COVID-19 Cases Hit 805 After Health Ministry Confirms 8 New Infections

The number of Coronavirus infections in Uganda currently stands at 805 cases after the Health Ministry registered 8 new cases from samples tested  on Tuesday June 23, 2020.

Information from the Ministry of Health indicates that results from samples tested on 23 June 2020 confirmed 8 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total COVID-19 confirmed cases to 805.

The new COVID-19 cases  include 6 truck drivers from Points of Entry: 3 from Mutukula, 2 from Elegu, and 1 from Malaba

The other 2  cases are among contacts and alerts from Amuru and Kyotera Districts.

It was also revealed by the Ministry that 14 foreign truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 and were returned to their respective countries of origin.

Meanwhile, the  number of total recoveries in Uganda currently stands at  717 and to date,  the country has not registered any COVID-19 related deaths.

The results were compiled out of 1,521 Samples from Points of Entry and 675 Samples from alerts and contacts, making a grand total of  2,196 samples.

In  the same vein, the Ministry if Health on Tuesday flagged off a total of 473,007 face masks  to be distributed to communities in Isingiro District to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the population.

The function was officiated over by State Minister for Health in charge of General Duties, Hon. Robinah Nabbanja.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Health recently issued a directive to all Ugandans to wear face masks at all times when in public places as one of the ways of preventing the spread of Coronavirus.

The Ministry has since embarked on a campaign to distribute free masks to Ugandans in their efforts to bolster the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
