Uganda investment authority (UIA) has according to its mandate, committed itself to facilitate the Bionas East Africa Group, an investor set to implement four major projects in Uganda.
Ms. Jolly Kaguhangire, the Executive Director signed a memorandum of understanding with Bionas last week to facilitate the engagement with various ministries, departments and agencies relevant to implementation of these projects that are expected to contribute significantly to the development of the economy.
Speaking to the press, Jolly Kaguhangire noted that some of the projects include; Jotropha Agropolitan Business, Corridor Clusters Development, and that there is ongoing engagement in the local government ministry, districts, entities, and individuals and is expected to cover 120 districts and create jobs for 1.8 million people.
She added that UIA has initiated the ongoing discussions with the ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban development as well as Local government, and other projects will generate energy from waste and see the establishment of new low cost green international airport at one of the lakes to cater for the fast growing Eco tourism industry in the area on a build, operate and transfer basis.
Meanwhile according to Zurina Amnan, the group Chief Executive Officer of BIONAS, the project will be implemented by a Consortium of 21 Malaysia and Chinese companies with various required expertise, who will fund the projects 100â„… with no financial implications on the government of Uganda.
