Bweyogerere, Kampala: The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), via its official website and social media platforms has revealed that its long-serving Executive Director, Eng. Dr. Ben Manyindo is retiring from the standards agency with effect from November 1, 2020. Manyindo has served the agency for 20 years, having joined in 1998.
Accordingly, Mr. David Livingstone Ebiru, who is the Deputy Executive Director in charge of Management and Financial Services at the Bureau has been appointed as the Acting Executive Director until the process of recruiting the substantive Executive Director is concluded,” they revealed.
“The Bureau acknowledges the great contribution made by Dr. Manyindo towards its growth in terms of infrastructure and service delivery during his tenure of service. He joined the Bureau in 1998 as the Deputy Executive Director in charge of Technical Operations before assuming the position of the Executive Director in 2012 where he has been at the helm for last 8 years,” the statement adds.

UNBS also emphasized that also Manyindo is leaving, the Agency will continue with its commitment to continue performing its critical mandate of developing, promoting and enforcing national standards in order to protect the safety and health of consumers and the environment against dangerous and sub-standard products.

The National Standards Council, Management and the entire UNBS family wishes Dr. Ben Manyindo the very best of life after his service with the Bureau and welcomes Mr. David Livingstone Ebiru as the Acting Executive Director,” the statement reads in part.
The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives established by the UNBS Act Cap 327 that became operational in 1989. It is governed by the National Standards Council and headed by the Executive Director who is responsible for its day-to-day operations.
It’s Mandated To;
- Formulation and promotion of the use of standards;
- Enforcing standards in the protection of public health and safety and the environment against dangerous and sub-standard products;
- Ensuring fairness in trade and precision in the industry through reliable measurement systems; and
- Strengthening the economy of Uganda by assuring the quality of locally manufactured products to enhance the competitiveness of exports in regional and international markets.
