The Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah has called for Unity among the people of Teso and requested them to work hard to develop their area.
Mr Oulanya while addressing the 3rd annual Teso Convention 2019 held at Soroti Hotel over the weekend said, it is time for people of Teso to move from their current position and change the region by doing the basics. He urged the Iteso to stop lamenting about the cattle restocking program and start relying on their hands to improve their livelihood.
He advised the people of Teso and Acholi to discard the dependency syndrome, which is killing people.
He launched the Teso Education Fund and donated Shillings 5 million to its operations.
The function was also attended by Capt. Mike Mukula, the former Soroti Municipality Member of parliament who warned the Iteso to stop mixing personnel issues with development in the region.
He also cautioned the Iteso against fighting each other. Mukula said many people from Teso have missed appointments in government because of being fought by their own.
Peter Lokeris, the State Minister for Energy and Ministerial Development, called upon the Iteso and Karimojong to unite and do business together.
He said Karimojongs eat sweet potatoes, but depend on supply
from Teso.
