Moyo: Uganda Police is investigating circumstances under which their own senior police officer was gunned down by a South Sudan refugee in Moyo District.
According to Uganda Police Spokesman CP Fred Enanga, the shot police officer is Assistant Superintendent of Police Natukunda Ian. He was gunned down on Saturday afternoon by a South Sudanese refugee.
“We are investigating the shooting incident that almost took one of our officers, but preliminary investigations show that ASP Natukunda was on duty trying to organize people but later picked a misunderstanding with one of the male refugees who grabbed a gun from one of his colleagues and shot him in the chest’’ he said.
Enanga added “Later Afande Natukunda was rushed to Moyo hospital for medical treatment as investigations into the matter continue.’’
Police sources from northern Uganda also informed TheSpy Uganda that when the officer was rushed to Moyo Hospital his condition deteriorated, so police management decided to airlift him to Kampala for further treatment
All top senior police commanders in Northern Uganda have since rushed to Moyo district to calm down the situation for fear there might break out fights from the Ugandan communities against the South Sudan refugees.
Police are also investigating and hunting for the yet to be identified refugee who shot ASP Natukunda as he (refugee) managed to escape after committing a crime.
