The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced that it’s to recruit over 10,000 personnel into the force in the shape of medics, drivers, air force personnel and mechanics, among others professions.
This has been revealed in the press statement revealing that the recruitment exercise will run between June 18 and July 4, 2022 in several parts of the country.

“There will be general recruitment of 8300 regular recruits from June,18 to July, 4, 2022 in various districts,” statement reads.
He added that the army will also have a special recruitment drive aimed at having 100 medical personnel, 1000 drivers and mechanics absorbed onto the army infantry roll as well as 600 recruits required in the air force.
Kulayigye said that although the recruitment of medical and airforce personnel awill be carried out at Kololo Independence Grounds, drivers and mechanics will be recruited at Gadhafi barracks in Jinja.
Mandatory Requirements
According to the UPDF, those persons eligible for recruitment will be Ugandans with valid national identity cards, aged between 18 to 25. These will be part of the 8300 to be enlisted in the regular army, professionals should be aged between 18 and 30.
While regular recruits should have a minimum of S.4 or S.6 certificates with a bias in science subjects including mathematics, physics and chemistry, the professionals should be degree or diploma holders in medicine, engineering, chemistry, education or vocational certificates.
“Applicants must be in good health, medically fit and ready to undergo road run and checkups,” adds the statement.
The UPDF says the applicants must also be single, with no children. This is to ensure they give their duties with the army their undivided attention.
