UPDF Confirms: Suspected Suicide Bomber Was Arrested Aiming To Bomb At Lokech’s Burial

Following an intelligence-led operation on the afternoon of Thursday 26 August 2021, a suspected suicide bomber, identified as Katumba Abdul aka Ben was arrested by joint security forces at Mikicha Guest House. along Canigula Road in Pader Town, UPDF says in a statement.

According to Army spokesperson Brig. Flavia Byekwaso In the statement, the suspect was found with an assortment of home bomb-making materials, including the following:

1. Assembled homemade bombs.

2. Bomb carrier bags

3. Ball bearings

4.Suicide vests

5.Detonators

6. Ammonium Sulphate

7. Wire cutters

8. Switches

9. Mobile phones used to detonate the bombs.

“Investigations so far indicate that the suspect had the intent of disrupting the funeral proceedings of Late Maj Gen Paul Lokech,” reads the statement.

“Other accomplices in the heinous crime are still at large but have been positively identified and operations to apprehend them are underway,” Byekwaso adds in the statement.

According to Byekwaso, the joint security forces are in control of the situation and the public is therefore urged to remain calm.

The body of the late Maj. Gen. Lokech was yesterday airlifted from his home in Kira to his ancestral home in Baibir Village, Pader District.

He will be laid to rest today with full honours from the police and  gun salutes presented by the UPDF.
