The Uganda People’s Defense Forces together with the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo say they have captured Kambi ya Yua-one of the biggest camps of the ADF rebel group and the Islamic State Central Africa Province.
“This camp was a host to military training and Islamic radicalization activities as evidenced by the literature found, bomb-making materials and one damaged Laptop computer,” said the Forces.
Kambi Ya Yua, a stronghold of ADF/ISCAP terrorists, seating on eight acres of Virunga forest land, is estimated to have accommodated over 600 ADF/ISCAP terrorists and their families.
Congo and neighbouring Uganda launched a military campaign in the area at the end of November against the ADF, with Uganda mounting air and artillery strikes against their bases and sending thousands of troops across the border. Officials have previously blamed the group for bombings in the region.
The above after two bombs were detonated in the heart of Kampala, with the government accusing ADF of being behind the bombings that left seven people dead.
The UPDF operation in DR Congo is code-named, “Operation Shujaa”.
