UPDF Introduces Divisional Army Uniforms To Ease Identification,Command

The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) top leadership has introduced new Uniforms and logos for  all Divisions to ease identification, command and control and professionalization, Spy Uganda exclusively reports.

The new decision was reached at by the UPDF High Command and Defence Forces Council recently, which permitted the new dress code changes in the forces to be implemented in accordance with the the UPDF rules and regulations.

While speaking exclusively to Spy Uganda reporter on Wednesday at the army Headquarters in Mbuya, UPDF Spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire   confirmed that the new dress code changes were recently gazzetted  by the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Adolf Mwesigye, in the Uganda gazette dated September 18, 2019.

”We will remain with our usual uniforms and directorates but what  will change are the logos because the new system is that each division will have its own logo which will be put on the right side for easy identification and movement of officers,” he said.

Karemire also revealed that the first division with its command and control at Kakiri township in Wakiso district will put on a uniform with a logo bearing a gun and boot with a green background on its lower part .

The second division which is located  at Makenke barracks in Mbarara will put on a a uniform with a logo bearing a gun, hoe, cow and a Bible whereas the Third division situated in Moroto,  will wear uniforms with a logo bearing a Bible, gun and mountains because of  Moroto Mountains and olive branches.

The  Fourth division in Gulu will have a logo bearing a head of a leopard, green and blue background with olive branches .

The Mountain division in Kasese will have a logo bearing a picture of an eagle soaring high above a mountain in blue and white colours.

The Field Artillery located in Masindi will have a photo of an artillery gun on a wheel with the UPDF motto, while Fifth  division based at  Acholi Pi will have a gun, drum, two spears and an ostrich.

Brig.Karemire said this is the mark of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’, accessories, insignia, decoration and uniform highlighted under section 160 of the UPDF Act 2005 .

 “If  I meet any officer attached to the medical department of any  Division for example I can easily tell that he is from Kakiri or Gulu,” he noted.

He also emphasized that UPDF is following the East Africa  Community Security Protocol to which UPDF is a member.
