KAMPALA, Uganda: A contingent of Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) that had been deployed in Somalia under AMISOM and Equatorial Guinea has since returned to Uganda after the completion of their respective missions.
Whereas those in Somalia were serving as peacekeepers under the African Mission for Somalia (AMISOM), the soldiers in Equatorial Guinea had been deployed to offer training and mentoring to Guinean forces. The returnees who include 248 from Guinea and 2,400 troops of Uganda’s 23rd Battalion Group to Somalia were received by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General David Muhoozi on Saturday.
Sources revealed that the returnees are to be deployed in Metropolitan Kampala such that they can beef up security in the capital city and its suburbs.
