UPL: Ssentamu Sends Vipers To Top As Villa Bangs MYDA 1-0

Kampala: The new signing Yunus Ssentamu’s 85th-minute brilliant header separated the two clubs and sent the defending Champions Vipers to the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after a 1-0 victory against the newly Army side UPDF FC at St Mary’s Kitende on Saturday 13th February 2021.

The lethal striker rejoined Vipers in the January transfer window on a two-year contract. The super striker converted the ball into the net after a long throw-in from Joseph Dhata. This was was his third goal in three matches for the Venoms since his arrival.

The three points secured today put the Kitende based side on 14 points on top of the table followed by Police FC on 13 points and UPDF which has been instrumental in the first five games in third place with 12 points.

Kajoba’s boys will place against troubled Kyetume away from home in their next league game with all focus to stay top of the table.

Elsewhere, SC Villa triumphed Moroto newly promoted MYDA in a 1-0 victory with the 82nd minute from Kazibwe who came in as a substitute at Bombo Military Barracks grounds.

The hard-earned victory for the Joggos put them in the 5th place on the league table just four points behind the table leaders Vipers.

It was the first-ever meeting between the two clubs as MYDA are yet to win a top division game this season. They have managed one point from five games, conceded an average of 3.8 goals per game making them the most lacklustre defenders this season.

The Jogoos came into Matchday 6 with a lot of confidence and eager to continue a perfect home run this season. Only  Gavin Kizito who is with the Hippos at the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and Fahad Bardiro was out of the squad. Meanwhile, Bright Stars thumped Kitara 5-0 at Kavumba recreation centre.

StarTimes Uganda Premier League will return today Sunday 14th February 2021 with URA FC up against Express FC at the Arena of Visions in Luweero.
