UPL Transfers: Striker Bashir Mutanda Inks New Contract With Mbarara City FC

Mbarara: Mutanda moves to the Ankole Lions on a one-year deal that will see him at the Mbarara based side until next year. He was officially announced as an Ankole Lions by club chairman Hon.Mwine Mpaka.

He moves to Mbarara City FC as a free agent after his contract with Villa expired in June.

As Mutanda joining Mbarara City, he has managed to extend the contracts of Ivorian defender Souleymane Bamba, Swalik Bebe Segujja (midfielder), Jude Ssemugabi (striker), Steven Othieno (defender), Pistis Barenge (midfielder) and goalkeeper Muhammad Shekeba.

At Mbarara, the powerful striker is expected to fill the void left by Brian Aheebwa who moved to KCCA FC last month.

Mbarara City also recalled Farouk Samali from a year-long loan spell at Kabale based FUFA Big League club Kigezi Homeboyz FC.

Mutanda is a graduate of the FUFA Juniors League and has previously featured for Vipers SC as well as Kirinya Jinja SS (now known as Busoga United).

He joined SC Villa in 2018 and went on to score 13 league goals in his first season with the Jogoos, he latter joins former Light SA FC duo of Ronald Edwok and Godfrey Kalungi and defender Karim Ramathan as the other new signings confirmed by Mbarara City FC this off-season.

After a disastrous start to last season, Brian Ssenyondo’s side finished 7th in the Uganda Premier League table last season with 36 points from 25 games as the league was abruptly ended because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Striker Brian Aheebwa, winger Ibrahim Orit winger and Ibrahim Kabuye all departed for greener pastures in this transfer season.
