URA Boss Cleans Again, Over 200 Custom Workers Reshuffled

Kampala: Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has made another huge reshuffle of over 200 officers working in the Customs Department across the country, in the ongoing clearance of the authority.

Through the memo shared by Commissioner Customs Abel Kagumire to Commissioner General John Rujooki dated June 29 2020, new changes will take effect on July 1- Wednesday, 2020.

In the same memo, Mr Kagumire has tasked Manager Customs Planning unit to facilitate the smooth deployment process before July 1, 2020.

It’s worth noting that since 2020 the tax authority has had numerous staff changes which includes resignation of Dicksons Kateshumbwa, commissioner for Domestic Henry Saka, Commissioner Large Tax Payers, Silajji Kanyesigye Baguma, Assistant commissioner Large Tax Payers, and Samuel Kahima, tax auditor in Domestic Tax department. 

In his heros’ day speech His Excellence Yoweri Kaguta Museveni warned that he would not guarantee any parasite in any government institution , cautioning URA officials whom he said had recruited young workers who were so corruptive. 

“I am tired of parasites, “kawukumi” who want something out of everything. To hell with the people who do not care about the country but only themselves,” he said.

Museveni said that the government is determined to clean all the other institutions and sounded a warning to all the corrupt. 

“There has been a lot of corruption in the URA but I have thoroughly cleaned it. We have dispersed the URA crowd. We shall clean all other institutions that have corrupt people,”President said.
