Kampala: The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has registered a loss of over Shs47 billion in the first quarter of the financial year, as a result of increased cases of defaulting and tax evasion.
Officials at the URA head offices in Nakawa have attributed this to increased cases of smuggling goods across porous borders, under declaration of weights, intentional evasion, and corruption among others. However, as a way of reducing the increasing cases of tax evasion, URA officials have decided to name and shame companies that do not want to pay taxes. Here is the list, which includes over 100 individuals and companies, among them Chinese and Indian investors, tycoons Gordon Wavamunno, Tom Mugenga, Drake Mabirizi and others.
