URA Striker Rwothomio, Coach Simbwa Crowned Best In UPL

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Football Club striker Cromwell Rwothomio was crowned best player in the Uganda Premier League for the month of January 2020.

This was at a ceremony held on Monday, February 3rd, 2020 at Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo, where Rwothomio and coach Sam Simbwa each received a plaque and cash worth Shs1,000,000 from the Uganda Premier League manager Paul Kabaikaramu,

To win the player of the month award, Rwothomio beat teammate Saidi Kyeyune and Police FC forward Ben Ocen.

Rwothomio scored four goals in four matches played in January with URA FC, including one in the knockout Uganda Cup (round of 64) against Lugazi Municipal Stadium at the Mehta Stadium, Lugazi, garnering 49.2% online votes.

The former Paidha Black Angels’ captain scored three goals last month and scooped the man of the match award.

For Simbwa, he was voted ahead of Busoga United’s Abby Kikomeko and Paul Kiwanuka of Bright Stars FC.

Last month, Simbwa oversaw four victories and a draw in his side’s five games.

They defeated SC Villa, BUL FC, Bright Stars FC and KCCA FC before drawing 1-1 with Tooro United FC.

Speaking to press after receiving their awards, Simbwa said, “I am happy to win this award once again. Special thanks to my players and back room staff. I also give thanks for the journalists and organizers of these awards. I am focused on winning as many games as possible as we play catch up to the leading clubs.”

“I am happy to be here. It has never been easy. I give all thanks to coach and fellow players. It has been down to commitment and hard work. The healthy competition at the club has given me ground to perform and I look forward to winning more awards in future,” Rwothomio said
