Kampala: The police in Kampala on Friday arrested the boyfriend of Dr. Cathy Agaba, an employee of IHK Hospital, who has been missing for several days now and her whereabouts remain unknown.
The suspect (names withheld on police request), who is currently in police custody to help with investigating the matter, is a Ugandan medical doctor based in the United States of America. He is being held at Kabalagala Police Station in relation to the disappearance of Dr. Agaba, who went missing on April 13. Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrest of the US based doctor, whose identity he declined to reveal, reasoning that it would jeopardize investigations.
“I only know that we have one person we are interrogating over Dr. Cathy Agaba’s disappearance. The person being interrogated is a US-based doctor but I am not going to reveal his particulars now,” Onyango said. However, although Onyango did not divulge particulars of the arrested US-based doctor, sources have since established that the suspect is Dr. Andrew Ntambi, who was allegedly last seen with Dr. Agaba the day she went missing. Police reportedly zeroed on Ntambi after a medical student in Kabalagala alerted police that he had last seen the duo moving together. “The student who alerted police is doing his internship in Uganda and is a Kenyan national. In his information to police, he indicated that he saw Agaba with Ntambi and that is why the police picked him up.
Agaba’s disappearance was registered at Kabalagala Police Station on CRB 447/2019. Onyango on Thursday said that the hunt for Agaba had been intensified and police had registered promising clues. Agaba’s neighbors at an apartment in Munyonyo, where she stayed with her boyfriend reportedly told police in their statements that Agaba was seen leaving her apartment during day time holding a traveling bag like someone who was headed for a trip. Agaba is a graduate of Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
